Golden Square Pavilion Aberdeen
The brief for this project was to create a pavilion building within Golden Square to enhance the use of the space. At the moment the square is predominantly being used for parking and entry to buildings facing the square.
The proposal was to reconnect Union Street with Golden Square by adding a pedestrianized route through the centre of the square connecting South Silver Street and North Silver Street. Maintaining a route around the outside of the square will reduce traffic congestion around the area. Two pavilion buildings are placed on either side of the pedestrianized to create a focal point in the centre of the two buildings. One building would house an Exhibition Space while the other contained a Coffee Shop. The idea was to reclaim the popularity within the square by creating a more active usable space.
The construction was mainly timber post and beam structure with timber kit. The roof was covered in zinc to sympathise the local surroundings. Oak cladding was used on the outside, which would weather to a silver grey to reflect the Granite buildings in Golden Square.
